★★★½

Stephen King is the best part. Apparently that's controversial. I get the criticism and don't think that self-insertion would work for almost any other series, but it does here.

Final book guesses: one by one the ka-tet dies (I thought that would happen this book). Roland is the only one to make it to the Dark Tower. On each level of the tower he meets people from his past or other Stephen King books that try to stop him from ascending. The Crimson King and Mordred are at the top of the Tower. The ending is somehow cyclical and Roland ends where he began in Book 1.
